The 30th Marine Library of China Oceanic Development Foundation Settled in Tongliao Fifth Middle School of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region

This July is the "red month" for the whole country to celebrate the centenary of the Communist Party of China. July is also the month when weather conditions change rapidly. After a 7-hour flight delay, at 2:30 am on July 6, Lv Bin, President of China Oceanic Development Foundation, and his team arrived in Tongliao City of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. With enthusiasm for the cause of the ocean, the leaders are not holding back by the wearing trip. The opening ceremony of the marine library of Tongliao Fifth Middle School was held at 9:30 am as scheduled. Lv Bin, President of China Oceanic Development Foundation, Yu Xingguang, former Director of the Third Institute of Oceanography of the State Oceanic Administration, current researcher of the Third Institute of Oceanography of the Ministry of Natural Resources and chief science communication expert of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Wang Min, Director of the Office (Finance Office) of China Oceanic Development Foundation, Liu Fulong, Deputy Director of Science Education and Culture Department, and Wang Xinhui, Business Director, accompanied by Zhang Yi, Vice Mayor of Tongliao City, Guo Mingqun, Deputy Secretary-General of Tongliao Municipal Government, Xue Jing, Director of Tongliao Education Bureau, and Wang Zizhong, Principal of Tongliao Fifth Middle School, and more than 450 students and teachers of the first and second grade of the School have attended this ceremony. Comrade Xue Jing, Director of Tongliao Education Bureau, presided over the ceremony.

President Lv Bin delivered an inspiring speech that was interrupted by the enthusiastic applause of the students many times. On behalf of China Oceanic Development Foundation, he firstly expressed warm congratulations to Tongliao Fifth Middle School on the completion of the marine library. He talked about the importance and inevitability of developing the blue frontier, protecting the marine environment and actively expanding the marine development space from six aspects: the ocean is the cradle of life, the treasure house of resources, the main traffic route, the hometown of wind and rain, the base of scientific research and the battlefield of rights and interests. He pointed out that building a maritime power is an inevitable choice to achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, which requires the joint efforts of all Chinese people, the unity and struggle of all ethnic groups in the coastal and mainland areas, the whole society to care about the ocean, know about the ocean, govern the ocean and continuously cultivate excellent marine talents. Lv Bin put forward five earnest hopes on how to implement the marine-related talents cultivation program of "Donating Marine Libraries, Cultivating Youth Talents". First, he hopes that students actively borrow marine-themed books from the library, put books into schoolbags, into the mind and love the ocean. Students with high enthusiasm for learning and achieve fruitful results will be given priority to participate in the summer and winter camps organized by the Foundation. Second, an ocean society will be established in the first and second grade of high school and will be used as a "spark" to promote the learning of marine knowledge to the whole school through essays, speeches, handicrafts, paintings, board newspapers and other forms. Third, the effective integration of marine knowledge into classroom teaching will be actively promoted to develop Tongliao Fifth Middle School into a school with special characteristics of marine education in Inner Mongolia. Marine teaching competition will be actively held among teachers and the best lecturers will be awarded the honorary certificate of "Distinguished Lecturer in Ocean Cloud Classroom". Fourth, Tongliao Fifth Middle School is encouraged to carry out different forms of exchange and cooperation with other schools in the ocean-related talents cultivation program. Fifth, the school leaders should actively organize marine activities with relevant organizations and mainstream media in Tongliao City on major festivals such as World Oceans Day, ensuring marine awareness to radiate from the school to the society. Finally, he hopes that the students will embrace the marine sentiment, set the marine ambition, become marine talents, and contribute to the realization of the dream of building a maritime power.

Comrade Zhang Yi, Vice Mayor of Tongliao Municipal Government, delivered a welcome speech. On behalf of Tongliao Municipal Government, he expressed a warm welcome to the leaders of China Oceanic Development Foundation from afar, and thanked the Foundation for its loving donation to Tongliao Fifth Middle School and its grate support to Tongliao education. He pointed out that China Oceanic Development Foundation has injected vigor and new vitality into the development of education in Tongliao region with the patriotism of "ordaining conscience for Heaven and Earth; securing life and fortune for the people; perpetuating waning wisdom of ancient sages; and establishing peace for all future generations". He also said that in the future, Tongliao City will improve the education level and school quality in Tongliao region with the greatest sincerity and efforts, actively create high-quality education, strive to run a good education to the satisfaction of the people in the new era and from the new starting point, and deliver a satisfactory answer with excellent results to China Oceanic Development Foundation and the community who care and support the education of Tongliao region. At the same time, Zhang Yi gave a message to the students of Tongliao Fifth Middle School, hoping that they will strive to become the patriotic talents in the new era who is well-rounded, hard-working, family-minded, broad-minded, and capable of meeting the needs of the times with their upwardly attitude, purely clear wisdom and their will of perseverance and self-improvement.

A book donation ceremony was held later. Comrade Liu Fulong, Deputy Director of Science Education and Culture Department of China Oceanic Development Foundation, donated marine books worth RMB200,000 to Tongliao Fifth Middle School, and Comrade Wang Zizhong, Principal of the School, received the donation on behalf of the School. Comrade Lv Bin, President of China Oceanic Development Foundation, and Comrade Zhang Yi, Vice Mayor of Tongliao Municipal Government, jointly unveiled the "Marine Library of Tongliao Fifth Middle School".

After that, Wang Junchao, student representative of Tongliao Fifth Middle School, delivered a speech for appreciation. Teachers and students of Tongliao Fifth Middle School prepared songs such as "Welcome Song of the Grassland ", "Ocean, My Hometown", and "Singing for the Motherland" as well as poem recitation of "To the Ocean" to thank China Oceanic Development Foundation for its generous donation and care.

After the meeting, Comrade Yu Xingguang, former Director of the Third Institute of Oceanography of the State Oceanic Administration, current researcher of the Third Institute of Oceanography of the Ministry of Natural Resources and chief science communication expert of the Ministry of Natural Resources, and doctoral supervisor of the Ocean University of China, gave a lecture entitled "Sharing Personal Experience of Chinese Polar Expedition" to the teachers and students of Tongliao No.5 Senior High School, which was warmly welcomed by the students.

Comrade Xue Jing, Director of Tongliao Education Bureau, said that the establishment of the marine library of Tongliao Fifth Middle School is important for students to understand the marine knowledge, enhance the marine awareness, promote the marine culture and improve comprehensive literacy. The support and donation from China Oceanic Development Foundation will certainly promote the popularization of marine knowledge among students. In the future, Tongliao Fifth Middle School will take on new responsibilities, new roles, new missions and new challenges to promote the high-quality development of school education and help Tongliao education to create new glories of high-quality development.

Tongliao is one of the birthplaces of the Mongols whose population accounts for one third of that in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Tongliao Fifth Middle School was founded in 1963. Its comprehensive quality of education and teaching ranks among the top in the autonomous region, and it is a "high-quality student base" of Tsinghua University. As the first marine library donated by China Oceanic Development Foundation in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the marine library of Tongliao Fifth Middle School will play a positive role in raising the marine awareness of Mongolian students.
