The 28th Marine Library of China Oceanic Development Foundation Located in Qingdao No. 39 Middle School, Shandong Province

On May 17, 2021, China Oceanic Development Foundation held a ceremony to inaugurate the marine library at Qingdao No. 39 Middle School, Shandong Province. Pan Xinchun, Deputy President and Secretary General of China Oceanic Development Foundation, Guo Mingke, Director and Sub-party Secretary of North China Sea Bureau of Ministry of Natural Resources, Liu Pengzhao, Director and Party Secretary of Qingdao Education Bureau, Xiang Youquan, Deputy Secretary General of China Oceanic Development Foundation and Deputy Director of Marine Advisory Center of Ministry of Natural Resources, Bai Gangxun, Principal of Qingdao No. 39 Middle School in Shandong Province and some representatives of teachers and students attended the inauguration ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by Jiang Yuanshao, Deputy Director of Qingdao Education Bureau.

Pan Xinchun, Deputy President and Secretary General of the Foundation, said that Qingdao No.39 Middle School, as the Affiliated Middle School of Ocean University of China, has actively utilized the university resources to carry out the trinity curriculum system of basic curriculum + extension curriculum + practical curriculum, which has stimulated students' interest in the ocean and enthusiasm to understand the ocean, and even encouraged some of them to set up the ambition to engage in the ocean-related work. He warmly congratulated Qingdao No.39 Middle School for its fruitful achievements in marine education. China Oceanic Development Foundation has implemented the ocean-related talents cultivation program of "Donating Ocean Libraries, Cultivating Youth Talents", which aims to popularize marine knowledge, enhance marine awareness and cultivate young marine talents in inland primary and secondary schools. In the past three years, the program has been implemented in 27 primary and secondary schools in poverty-stricken areas, old revolutionary areas, ethnic minority areas and border areas of 17 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government, benefiting more than 100,000 primary and secondary students In the 2020 college entrance examination, more than 100 students were admitted to marine colleges and universities, with some schools first having students applying for marine colleges and universities. He pointed out that the ocean is the cradle of life, the treasure house of resources, the main thoroughfare of transportation, the home of wind and rain, the base of scientific research, the battlefield of rights and interests, and the main body of carbon sequestration. He hopes that the students would learn widely from all and study diligently, taking marine books as their companions and friends, taking "Wisdom in hold, elegance in mold" as the spiritual pursuit, perceiving life, learning to think and growing up happily by reading. He also hopes that the students would take the initiative to apply for marine colleges and universities, engage in marine research in the future, and make contributions to the development of a maritime power.

He said that the school has promoted the subject-oriented research and program-based teaching research of the national curriculum, which is the inevitable result of the promotion of in-depth school-based reform of the national curriculum inspired by the development of marine education and marine characteristic curriculum. The establishment of the marine library provides strong intellectual support for the development of marine education in Qingdao No. 39 Middle School and valuable resources for the school to carry out marine education.

Liu Pengzhao, Director and Party Secretary of Qingdao Education Bureau, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to China Oceanic Development Foundation for its deep support to Qingdao's marine education. He said that Qingdao has a unique geographical and locational advantage for the development of the marine enterprise, and as a famous city for its marine science and technology, it has about one-fifth of the sea-related scientific research institutions, one-third of the sea-related high-end research and development platforms and sea-related high-end talents, and about 30% of the sea-related "CAS and CAE" academicians in China, which are the leading talents and backbones of the development of the national marine industry. He hopes that with the support of China Oceanic Development Foundation, there are more and more cooperation and exchange, and there is a joint effort to promote the training of talents who care about the ocean, understand the ocean, and manage the ocean, which is of great significance to the development of a maritime power for the country and the province.

After the ceremony, accompanied by Principal Bai Gangxun, Pan Xinchun, Vice President and Secretary General and his entourage visited the school's laboratory. After seeing several marine laboratories and specimen rooms built by the school, Pan Xinchun said that there are few marine schools with such unique conditions as Qingdao No.39 Middle School. He suggested that taking the establishment of the marine library as an opportunity, the school can fully stimulate students' interest and enthusiasm in the ocean, encourage students to actively apply for marine colleges and universities, and cultivate talents for the implementation of the national strategy of building a maritime power; he also suggested to promote the advanced experience of marine education to other schools engaged in the ocean-related talents cultivation program and improve the level of marine education in schools in inland areas.
