China Oceanic Development Foundation donates Ocean Library at Pengshui No. 1 Middle School

On June 21, 2019, the unveiling ceremony of Ocean Library was held in Pengshui No.1 Middle School of Pengshui Miao and Tujia Autonomous County in Chongqing. More than 400 people, including the Assistant Chairman and Secretary-General of the China Oceanic Development Foundation Pan Xinchun and the Deputy Secretary-General Xiang Youquan, the Deputy Director of the Marine Rights Bureau of the Central Foreign Affairs Office Liang Jinzhe, the Secretary of the Party Committee of the National Deep Sea Base Management Center Liu Baohua, the Deputy Secretary of the Pengshui County Zhang Yong, the member of the government party group Yu Zisen, the director of the county education committee Fu Meibing, the principal of Peng Shui No.1 Middle School He Biao, and the representatives of teachers and students, attended the event.

Secretary-General Pan Xinchun and Deputy Secretary Zhang Yong jointly unveiled the marine library of Pengshui No.1 Middle School. The Deputy Secretary-General Xiang Youquan donated books worth 200,000 yuan to Peng Shuiyi No.1 Middle School on behalf of China Oceanic Development Foundation.

Deputy Director Liang Jinzhe delivered a speech on behalf of the Central Foreign Affairs Office. Deputy Director Liang Jinzhe delivered a speech on behalf of the Central Foreign Affairs Office. He pointed out that Pengshui County is a designated poverty alleviation county of the Central Foreign Affairs Office, and the education is an important path to targeted poverty alleviation. He thanked China Oceanic Development Foundation for its strong support for the designated poverty alleviation work of the Central Foreign Affairs Office. He hoped that the students of Pengshui No. 1 Middle School would use this as an opportunity to study hard, develop their horizons, and move from the mountains to the sea at an early date, and become the backbone of a marine consciousness, looking at the world, serving the motherland ’s marine cause, and building a maritime power.

The Secretary-General Pan Xinchun pointed out in his speech that donating to build the Pengshui No.1 Middle School Marine Library is a positive action of the Central Foreign Affairs Office and China Ocean Development Foudation to resolutely implement the central education poverty alleviation policy, and a concrete manifestation of the support and concern for the teachers and students of Pengshui No.1 Middle School. He used simple and easy-to-understand language to explain the relationship between humans and the ocean to students, and explained the principle that humans must rely on the support of the ocean to survive and develop.

The Secretary-General Pan Xinchun pointed out that in order to encourage students to read more marine books, to understand the marine world, and to turn each book up, the foundation will establish a standard evaluation system and incentive measures, and reward students, teachers, principals, schools, etc. who are effective in learning Ocean Books, such as participating in foundation summer camps, winter camps, experience camps, training classes, and international activities.

The Deputy Secretary Zhang Yong expressed his gratitude to China Oceanic Development Foundation for its interest in Pengshui education. After the unveiling ceremony, researcher Liu Baohua, the party secretary of the National Deep Sea Base Management Center, invited by the Foundation to provide a special lecture on "Deep Sea Exploration" for teachers and students of Peng Shui No.1 Middle School. The lecture was warmly welcomed by the teachers and students present, which enabled them to further understand the concept of the ocean, understand the status and role of each ocean book they read, and then read it purposefully. Everyone said that they have benefited a lot and hope to read more marine books, explore the mysteries of the ocean, and apply for admission to marine colleges.

Pengshui No. 1 Middle School was completed in 2009, with more than 9,000 students. Miao and Tujia students account for about 80%. It is a large boarding school in southwest China. The Foundation hopes that it can radiate the Southwestern China through the Ocean Library project and continuously raise the marine awareness of inland areas.
