China Oceanic Development Foundation donates Ocean Library to settle in Hunan Taoyuan No. 1 Middle School

On April 12, 2019, China Oceanic Development Foundation held the unveiling ceremony of "Marine Library" in Taoyuan No. 1 Middle School, Changde City, Hunan Province. More than 500 people, including the Deputy President of China Ocean Development Foundation Lv Bin, the Secretary-General Pan Xinchun, the Deputy Secretary-General Xiang Youquan and Zhu Shengfeng, the Former Director of the Polar Expedition Office of the State Oceanic Administration Chen Liqi, the Secretary of Taoyuan County Party Committee Zhou Daihui, and the Deputy County Director Tang Sainan, the director of Taoyuan county education bureau Wen Jicheng, the principal of Taoyuan No.1 Middle School Yan  Liguo and representatives of teachers and students of the school, attended the event.

The Deputy President Lv Bin and the Secretary Zhou Daihui jointly unveiled the Ocean Library of Taoyuan No.1 Middle School. The Deputy President Lv Bin spoke at the unveiling ceremony. The Secretary-General Pan Xinchun donated more than 7,000 marine books worth 200,000 yuan to Taoyuan No. 1 Middle School on behalf of China Oceanic Development Foundation.

The Deputy President Lv Bin pointed out in his speech that the construction of the "Marine Library" in the inland regions is of great significance for the comprehensive promotion of China's marine knowledge. Based on the "Marine Library", the Foundation is holding a series of marine knowledge popularization activities, and strives to contribute to the cultivation of talents for building a marine power. He also raised three hopes for the marine teaching work of Taoyuan No.1 Middle School: (1) Fully inspire students’enthusiasm to love the sea , take the initiative to incorporate marine knowledge into daily learning, hope that students can find their own interest in marine books, based on book knowledge, in-depth study and strengthen practice. (2) Great efforts have been made to promote the effective integration of marine knowledge into classroom teaching. It is hoped that teachers will combine the teaching characteristics of the school to sort out the merging points of marine teaching and strive to arrange marine knowledge-related content in the school curriculum and comprehensive practical activities. (3) Actively promote the full integration of marine activities into the campus culture. Hope Taoyuan No. 1 Middle School can innovate ways and methods, actively promote the establishment of various marine communities and interest groups, and reasonably guide students to carry out daily marine awareness education and marine science public welfare activities.

Tang Sailan, deputy director of the People's Government of Taoyuan County, said that the donation of Ocean Library opened a new chapter for the education cause of Taoyuan County. The China Oceanic Development Foundation has not only provided material help, but more importantly sent valuable spiritual wealth. It has greatly inspired the inland areas spiritually, and has opened a wider window of the sea (the window of the world) for inland children. She hoped that all the students of Taoyuan No.1 Middle School should bear in mind the love of the Foundation, cherish learning opportunities, love the motherland, read books with wisdom, be grateful for their wisdom, and reward the care of all the students in Taoyuan No.1 Middle School with outstanding achievements.

After the unveiling ceremony, the researcher and marine expert Chen Liqi, the former director of the Polar Expedition Office of the State Oceanic Administration, was invited by the Foundation to give a lecture on "Exploration of the North and South Pole Science" to the teachers and students of Taoyuan No. 1 Middle School. The lecture was warmly welcomed by the teachers and students present. Everyone said they have benefited a lot, and hope to learn more about the ocean through the Foundation's "Marine Library" series of activities in the future.

Taoyuan No.1 Middle School was established in 1907. It is currently a national modern educational technology experimental school and a provincial key middle school in Hunan Province. That school has strong faculty and abundant educational achievements, and has a high reputation and a large radiation influence in Hunan Province.
