Marine Spatial Planning and Technical Support for Mozambique

Mozambique has a long and narrow coastline, continental shelf, and more than 500,000 square kilometers of exclusive economic zone. The degree of development and utilization in coastal areas is low, and most of its coasts remain in their original state. With the support of the China Oceanic Development Foundation, the Second Institute of Oceangraphy, MNR undertook Mozambique's marine spatial planning and technical support projects to develop special researches on coastal space resources, marine oil and gas resources, port and port industry, tourism resources and fishery resources for determining the functional zone of marine space in Mozambique and providing space planning support for the development of Mozambique's blue marine economy.

The Second Institute of Oceangraphy, MNR has confirmed cooperation with Eduardo Mondrane University and the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries of Mozambique in conducting marine spatial planning. The planning scope is planned for the Mozambique coastal zone and offshore areas. At present, the Second Ocean Institute has held a special communication with the members of the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf on the Mozambican side, and reached a preliminary consensus on the cooperation agreement on marine spatial planning in Mozambique. In the near future, Mozambique's marine spatial planning seminar will be held to formulate specific implementation plans for the project, and practical progress will be made in data collection, field surveys, and planning needs analysis.
