On September 28th, the awarding ceremony of the Ocean Library Donation Book and the “National Marine Awareness Education Base” was held in Peking University Experimental School of Qixingguan District, Bijie City, Guizhou Province, marking the official establishment of the Ocean Library in the Qixingguan District Peking University Experimental School. This is the first marine library donated by the China Oceanic Development Foundation(CODF) in the country. Deputy Secretary General of CODF Xiang Youquan, Deputy Director of the Public Education Department of the State Oceanic Administration(SOA) Publicity and Education Center, Shao Wentai, former Party Secretary of SOA's Polar Expedition Office Wei Wenliang, director of Qixingguan District Education Bureau Zhang Wanze and other leaders, more than 200 people from the District 4 Education Group and the teachers and students of the school attended the event.

On behalf of CODF, the Deputy Secretary General Xiang Youquan donated books worth 200,000 RMB to the affiliated experimental school of Peking University’s Peking University, and signed an agreement with Shao Wentai to establish a marine awareness education base for the school.

Shao Wentai, deputy director of the Public Education Department of SOA Publicity and Education Center, read the decision to award the title of “National Marine Awareness Education Base” to the Peking University Experimental School of Qixingguan District, and jointly unveiled the base with President Wang Jinxun.

Wang Jinxun, Party Secretary and President of the Peking University Affiliated Experimental School of Qixingguan District, delivered a speech at the ceremony. He said that the strengthening of marine awareness education will be a compulsory course for personnel training, and efforts will be made to contribute to the development of the marine industry of the motherland.

Zhang Wanze, director of the Education Bureau of Qixingguan District, also delivered a speech at the ceremony. He gave high praise to the school's high regard for students' marine awareness education, and expressed sincere gratitude to SOA for its support of the West and for helping the Seven Stars District.

Building a maritime power is one of the important strategic tasks put forward by the party's 18th National Congress report. In recent years, the affiliated experimental school of Peking University of Qixingguan District has attached great importance to the promotion and popularization of marine knowledge. In order to enhance the awareness of marine land, the school will set the ocean science month in June every year, and carry out the “Colorful Seashell Craft Society” activity during the marine science month, "The Sea in My Heart" painting, "World Ocean Day" blackboard review, reading the series of marine culture books, organizing students to watch the underwater world bio-promo and a series of marine missions.

After the completion of the Ocean Library of the Peking University Experimental School of Qixingguan District, it has special significance for promoting the school's marine awareness education and even the marine awareness education of Guizhou Province and the close proximity of the young people in the inland areas to the ocean, popularizing marine knowledge and enhancing public awareness of the ocean.
