Guarding the Beautiful Beach, We Act Together

The 2018 National Clean Beach Public Welfare Activity in full swing

China Oceanic Development Foundation ("the Foundation") hosted the 2018 National Clean Beach Public Welfare Activity with the theme of "Guarding the beautiful beach, We act together" during the 33rd International Beach Cleaning Day on September 15th. This activity is under the strong support of the National Marine Environmental Monitoring Center and the coastal marine authorities at all levels and unites the major marine nonprofit social organizations in China coastal areas, aiming at thoroughly implementing the thought on ecological civilization construction by General Secretary Xi JinPing, enhancing the awareness of protecting marine resources and environment among the whole people, and improving the attractiveness of China's marine beaches and the value of China's marine resources by gathering public forces that care for the ocean.

★Highlight 1: Large-scale organization

This year, for the first time, the Foundation brought together the major marine public welfare organizations along the coast of China to jointly organize the beach cleanup activity, and both the number of linkage sites and the organization scale have created the record in history. On the 15th, Sanya and Dalian, the two main venues, took the lead in opening the prelude of the 2018 National Clean Beach Public Welfare Activity, and then the enthusiasm of beach cleanup public welfare activity was quickly spread in more than 30 major coastal provinces and cities across the country. Except for certain cities that delayed the activity due to the typhoon, such as Shenzhen, more than 20,000 volunteers from more than 30 venues across the country carried out the beach cleanup activity at the same time.

★Highlight 2: Unified technical means

With the support of the National Marine Environmental Monitoring Center, the Technical Manual of Marine Garbage Monitoring for Volunteers was compiled, in which the marine garbage data card was improved and upgraded. This activity required all local organizations to use new data cards uniformly, solving the problem of different data cards in different places in the past.

★Highlight 3: Comprehensive and integrated

This year, the Foundation distributed cultural shirts and sun hats to volunteers from all over the country and unified the design and production of themes, banners, logos, flags, promotional films, publicity boards and beach cleaning tools. Activities all over the country were more integrated and interactive.

During the activity, marine organizations from all over the country issued proposals, hoping to set up a national alliance of marine public welfare organizations to jointly contribute to the protection of the blue ocean. At the same time, through the establishment of the alliance platform, the marine public welfare organizations are able to work together to seek greater breakthroughs and development for the marine public welfare undertakings.

★Highlight 4: Extensive media coverage

More than 30 organizers have followed the whole event through their WeChat official account and network platforms and their reports have been reposted and liked a lot in a short time. In addition, the activity has received warm reports from more than 40 central and local media and online platforms.
