On November 28, CODF organized an acceptance meeting of Coastline Rehabilitation Supporting Project, the Pingtan-Dayu Ecological Island Reef Construction Project supported by the China Ocean Development Foundation's Strait Resources Protection and Development Special Fund, at Dayu Island, Pingtan County, Fujian Province.

Project acceptance meeting site

The project acceptance team inspected the project construction site, heard the construction unit, construction unit, and supervision unit's briefing on the project, and reviewed relevant acceptance data. The project acceptance team believes that the Coastline Rehabilitation Supporting Project of Pingtan-Dayu Ecological Island Reef Construction Project generally meets the requirements of the project implementation plan, the project management and the use of funds are relatively standardized, and the acceptance data are basically complete, and the completion acceptance conditions are met. After review by the acceptance team, it was agreed that the Coastline Rehabilitation Supporting Project of Pingtan-Dayu Ecological Island Reef Construction Project passed the acceptance check.

Site inspection of the acceptance team

Pingtan Dayu Island is an uninhabited island. That island belongs to the Pingtan Comprehensive Experimental Zone, located on the east side of the middle section of the Haitan Strait, on the west side of Huangmenao, and on the south side of the Pingtan Strait Bridge. The island is one of the uninhabited islands in Fujian with the most ecological protection and development value. It is also one of the first 20 “Charming Islands” in Fujian Province that were formally introduced by Fujian in the World Ocean Day and National Marine Publicity Day in 2014.

Engineering Geographical Map

Before the implementation of this project, Dayu Island was eroded by sea winds and waves all year round, which caused part of the island ’s rocks and slopes to be exposed, especially the vegetation cover on the northeast windward side was not good, and the island ’s mountains were partially soil and water lost.

Shoreline slope protection construction process

By carrying out shoreline restoration and ecological improvement, the basic environmental conditions of Dayu Island have been greatly improved, the damaged island body and island ecosystem were effectively restored, the precious natural resources of the island were protected, and the virtuous cycle of the island ecosystem was maintained. These measures enhance the beautiful natural scenery of the island and further promote the harmonious development of people and nature. Experts said that the island ecological protection and rehabilitation technologies applied in this project, as well as the results and implementation experience, have provided a good guidance and reference for Fujian and even other non-resident island ecological restoration projects in the country.
