Recently, the Pingtan-Dayu Ecological Island Reef Construction Project supported by the China Ocean Development Foundation's Strait Resources Protection and Development Special Fund has attracted the attention of the United Nations Development Programme and the China Foundation Center, and is selected as one of the 17 typical model cases in the "Philanthropy for Sustainable Development in China 2020".

In March, 2018, the Foundation has cooperated with Fujian Provincial Department of Ocean and Fisheries to set up the "China Ocean Development Foundation's Strait Resources Protection and Development Special Fund", which has raised funds through corporate donations and other means to be used for the marine ecological restoration of islands in China. The Pingtan-Dayu Ecological Island Reef Construction Project is the first project supported by the Special Funds, with a total investment of 10 million yuan, which has been successfully accepted in November 2019.

As one of the first 20 most distinctive "charming islands" in Fujian Province officially introduced to the outside world, Dayu Island in Pingtan County has been built into a demonstration island integrating scientific research, monitoring, teaching, and visiting functions under the support of this project, and its attention and influence in all sectors of the society are gradually increasing.
